In the morning of April 11, the day that Pope Shenouda III would arrive to Ethiopia about 6 p. m., I went to the Entoto Mountain to take some natural shots, and to visit St. Mary Entoto Church and its museum. On the way up I noticed the clouds covering the top of the mountain in a beautiful way, and I found pack animals like donkeys bearing loads of woods and fire-woods, heading down the mountain. Later I saw many girls and women holding woods also on their backs, and seem they are selling these woods or using it for lighting fire in house use..! Once more I thought of Egypt, and thanked God for every situation we are in..
في صباح يوم الجمعة 11 إبريل، كانت طائرة قداسة البابا شنوده الثالث سوف تصل حوالي السادسة بعد الظهر، وفي فترة الانتظار، ذهبت إلى جبل إنتوتو Entoto لأخذ بعض المناظر الطبيعية والذهاب إلى كنيسة السيدة العذراء بانتوتو وأيضاً المتحف الموجود بها. وفي الطريق لاحظت السحاب وهو يغطي قمة الجبل بمنظر مُلفت للنظر، ووجد الدابة مثل الحمير مُحَمَّلين بالحطب وقطع الأخشاب، ويتجهون إلى أسفل الجبل. ثم بعد ذلك شاهد العديد من الفتيات والسيدات وهم يحملون على ظهورهن قطع الحطب والخشب، ويبدو أن بعضهن يقوم ببيع هذه الأخشاب أو استخدامها في أغراض أعمال المنزل كحطب..! مرة أخرى فكرت في مصر، وشكرت الله على كل حال..

The scenery from the top of the mountain is gorgeous, and you can see all of Addis Ababa.. Then I entered St. Mary Church and started taking photographs, and I was stopped saying that I have to take permission first, then the driver took the permission, as I came by the Ethiopian Patriarchate car.. After this we entered the museum, and it had many beautiful pieces, artifacts, imperial clothing, statues, manuscripts, golden crosses, altar tools.. etc.
المنظر من أعلى الجبل ممتع جداً، ومنه ترى كل أديس أبابا.. ثم دخلت إلى كنيسة السيدة العذراء مريم وبدأت في التصوير، حتى جاء أحدهم يخبرني بوجوب أخذ تصريح للتصوير، وقام السائق بأخذ التصريح، حيث أننا جئنا بعربة البطريركية الحبشية.. وبعد هذا دخلنا المتحف، وبه العديد من القطع الجميلة والملابس والتماثيل والمخطوطات والصلبان الذهبية وأواني المذبح..

Then we got back to the Patriarchate, and I found the Coptic and Ethiopian delegations were getting prepared to move at 4 p. m. to the Airport to receive Abune Shenouda, the Coptic Pope, when His plane arrives at 5:30. Instead of waiting, I went to the National Museum of Ethiopia. My notes about it were the same as what I noticed at other Museums, that they are not well protected, not caring about the quality or quantity of proper lighting, poor glass boxes to put artifacts in, and the low quality of cleanliness in them.. I was thinking the same in Egypt unfortunately, but at some places and not all.. We would like to use this chance for those who read this, regarding the importance of training the guards and watching them well, and trying to know whether they are to be trusted and not commit any crimes of theft or bribery at the historical places.. As these crimes are against human civilization.. Also they should care for them well from the financial point of view, or accept any filthy amount of money in return to something that can’t be bought with money..
بعد هذا عدنا إلى البطريركية، وكان الوفد القبطي والحبشي برئاسة بطريرك الحبشة أبونا باولص سيتحرك الساعة الرابعة تمهيداً لاستقبال قداسة البابا شنوده الثالث عند حضوره على طائرة خاصة الساعة الخامسة والنصف. ووجدت هناك فسحة من الوقت، فذهبت إلى متحف إثيوبيا National Museum of Ethiopia، وكانت ملاحظتي منذ البداية هي نفس ملاحظتي في المتاحف السابقة، وهو رداءة نسبة الأمن فيها، وعدم الاهتمام بنوعية الإضاءة والصناديق الزجاجية لوضع المعروضات، وحمايتها، والنظافة بها..! وهنا كنت أفكر في نفس الأمر في مصر للأسف، وذلك في بعض الأماكن، وليس كلها.. ونستغل الفرصة هنا لمن قد يقرأ هذا، بالاهتمام بتدريب الحرس ومراقبتهم جيداً، ومحاولة معرفة هل قد يقومون بأي جرائم سرقة أو رشوة في الأماكن الأثرية.. فهي جرائم ضد الحضارة الإنسانية.. وأيضاً يقومون بالاهتمام بهم مادياً، حتى لا يسوء بهم الحال ويقبلون أي مبلغ تافه، لقاء شيء أو إتلاف شيء لا يُقدَّر بمال..
The Museum had some antiques, imperial clothes, imperial chair, crowns of kings, and parts about the beginning of human kind and ancient skulls, that goes back to more than 160.000 years old. I saw the skull of “Selam”, the first child, dated 3.3 million years, it was discovered in Ethiopia, and the story was covered at the National Geographic.
المتحف كان به بعض القطع الأثرية وملابس وكرسي الإمبراطور، وبه جزء عن الإنسان الأول وجماجم أثرية تعود إلى 160 ألف عام.. وبه تيجان المُلك.. وشاهدت جمجمة "سيلام" Selam الطفلة الأولى، وعمرها 3.3 مليون سنة! وقد ماتت وهي في الثالثة من عمرها. وقد اكتُشِفَت الجمجمة في إثيوبيا، ونُشِرَ عنها في مجلة ناشونال جيوجرافيك National Geographic.
After that I descended to the ground floor, and it had lots of fossils of ancient and extinct animals.. Then I entered the room of the famous Ms. “Lucy” that everyone talks about. It is the most complete skeleton to the most ancient human being, discovered in 1974 by Donald C. Johansen. She is very short..
بعد هذا نزلت إلى دور تحت الأرض، وبه عظام لحيوانات قديمة ومنقرضة.. ثم دخلت الحجرة الشهيرة لجمجمة السيدة "لوسي" التي يتحدث عنها العالم. وهي أكمل هيكل عظمي لإنسان من العصر البدائي الأول، إكتُشِفَت عام 1974 بيد دونالد سي جوهانسن. وطولها قصير جداً..

Then to the second floor, it had clothes and old tools used by the ancient Ethiopians, along with some nice jewelry.. Then on the first floor, there were some contemporary art work of statues and portraits, of which pictures of: The Holy Trinity – St. Mary Theotokos – a beautiful picture of the Queen of Sheeba (the Ethiopian) in her meeting with King Solomon as mentioned in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible. Then a very big picture of St. Philopatir Mercurious, St. George, Virgin Mary, and some scenes from the Holy Bible and the crucifixion of Jesus Christ..
ثم صعدت إلى الدور الثاني لأشاهد بعض الملابس والأدوات التي كان يستخدمها الإثيوبيين القدماء.. مع بعض الحُلى الجميلة.. بعد هذا نزلت إلى الدور الأول، وبه بعض الأعمال الفنية من تماثيل ومنحوتات وصور، منها صور: الثالوث القدوس – السيدة العذراء مريم الثيئوتوكوس – صورة جميلة لملكة سبأ في مقابلتها مع الملك سليمان الحكيم كما هو مذكور في العهد القديم من الكتاب المقدس. ثم لوحة ضخمة جداً فيها القديس فيلوباتير مرقوريوس أبو سيفين، والقديس مارجرجس، والسيدة مريم العذراء، مع بعض صور من الكتاب المقدس وصلب المسيح..
