43) The Famous Ethiopian Anjera Bread!

 الأنجيرا، الخبز الحبشي الشهير

 

I headed back to the car, and took some various pictures for Saint Takla Haymanout from the bookshop, along with a brief about the history of the Monastery of DebreLibanos, we’ve put it here at St. Takla Himanot’s website.  Then one of the monks insisted that I eat something before I leave..  I refrained a bit, then they got me into the dining room of the Bishops and Metropolitans!!  So they said, it had guestrooms for Bishops, beds, & separate rooms for praying and resting..  I got into the dining room, and they brought to me something called “Anjera”, which is something like bread being baked from some kind of seeds, and it looks like the Egyptian “Kataief”, but bigger, much bigger, and it is put on a plate by wrapping it or as rolls..  Then they got me some kind of yellow food, mainly lentils, and some kind of sauce, I thought it was a bit spicy, and I didn’t take from it as I don’t like much spices..  And it is known that the Ethiopian food is never free from various kinds of spices, chili, & pepper in loads..  So I head to the (lentils), and the man there put a scoop of it over the Angera in the middle, followed by another..  I started eating after making the sign of the cross, and I thought that this scene is a must see!!  So I got out my digi cam, while others were smiling, and I am like: we don’t have Anjira in Egypt..!

بعد هذا خرجت جهة العربة، وأخذت بعض الصور المختلفة للقديس تكلا هيمانوت من المكتبة، بالإضافة لمعلومات عن تاريخ دير ديبراليبانوس ستجدها هنا بموقع الأنبا تكلا هيمانوت.  ثم قام أحد الآباء الرهبان بالإصرار على أن أتناول الطعام قبل السفر..  فتمنعت قليلاً، ثم تم إدخالي إلى حجرة طعام الآباء الأساقفة والمطارنة!!  هكذا قيل لي، وبها مضيفة للآباء الأساقفة، وأسِرّة وحجرات منفصلة للصلاة والراحة فيها..  ودخلت حجرة الطعام، ثم جاء أحدهم بشيء اسمه "أنجيرا"، وهو عبارة عن شيء شبيه بالخبز يتم عمله من نوع معين من البذور، وشكله مثل (القطايف)، ولكنها واحدة كبيرة، يتم تطبيقها أو لفها كرول ووضعها على طبق..  ثم جاء بطعام أصفر (غالباً عدس)، ونوع من الصلصة، توسمت فيها أنها بالتوابل والشطة Spicy فتمنعت منها لأني لا أحب كثرة التوابل، ومعروف عن الطعام الإثيوبي أنه لا يخلو من أنواع التوابل المختلفة والشطة والفلفل بكمية كبيرة..  فتوجهت (للعدس)، وقام الموجود بالمائدة بوضع مغرفة منه على الأنجيرا في الوسط، ثم تبعها مغرفة أخرى..  وبدأت في تناول الطعام بعد رشم علامة الصليب، ثم قلت لنفسي أنه يجب أن أقوم بتصوير هذا الطعام!!  فأخرجت الكاميرا وسط ابتسامة المحيطين، وأنا أخبرهم أنه لا يوجد لدينا أنجيرا في مصر..!
