48) Three Months Visa to Ethiopia

 فيزا ثلاثة أشهر لإثيوبيا

 

Today, April 24, I went to the Immigration Ministry to renew my Visa, which would end on May 7, 2008, and mainly at that time I’d be in the middle of my visit to the previously mentioned places..  After handling my application, and going through the governmental routine, I was told to come the following Monday to get the renewal..  So I told them that I might start the tour at that day, and even if not, I need to be ready for any circumstances..  God & St. Teklahaimanot gave us grace in their eyes, and told me to come after two hours to get the Visa!!  But when I went back, I couldn’t find it..  And I had already been late, bad habit!  It was after the official working hours..  So I went from office to office, and at the last one when I was explaining my problem to the Office’s Manageress, I found someone sitting there asking me about my nationality, I told him: “Egyptian”..  He told me: “Come with me”..  That man was by mere chance the one responsible for the last step of issuing and giving the Visa, and he had already closed his office (that was situated outside that building), getting ready for a three-days-leave till Easter Sunday..  Once more I felt St. Takla’s hands interfering at crucial moments to save it..  I got the Ethiopian Visa for two months (in addition to the first month), although many told us that they are very strict regarding renewing, and that I might take it for something like 10 days..  Thank God..

اليوم 24 إبريل ذهبت في الصباح لوزارة الهجرة لأقوم بتجديد الفيزا، حيث ستنتهي يوم 7 مايو 2008، وغالباً سأكون وقتها في خلال الرحلة لزيارة الأماكن السابقة الذكر..  وبعد تقديم الطلب والخضوع للروتين الخاص بالإدارات الحكومية، قيل لي أن آتي يوم الإثنين بعد العيد للحصول على تأشيرة التجديد..  فأخبرتهم أنني سأبدأ في الزيارة غالباً ذلك اليوم..  وحتى إن لم أبدأها، فإني أريد أن يكون ورقي جاهزاً لأى الاحتمالات..  فأعطانا الله والأنبا تكلاهيمانوت نعمة في أعينهم، وطلبوا أن آتي بعد ساعتين لأخذ الفيزا!!  ولكن عندما حضرت لاستلامها، لم أجدها..  وكنت قد ذهبت متأخراً كعادتي!  وكان وقت انتهاء العمل قد حان بالفعل..  فذهب من مكتب إلى مكتب، وفي آخر مكتب عندما كنت أعرض الأمر على مديرة المكتب، وجدت شخصاً جالساً يسألني عن جنسيتي، فقلت له: "مصري"..  فقال لي: تعال معي..  وكان هو بالصدفة الشخص المسئول عن الخطوة الأخيرة لعمل واستلام الفيزا، وكان قد أغلق مكتبه (الموجود خارج المبنى ذاته) بالفعل استعداداً للرحيل لأخذ إجازة (الجمعة، والسبت، وأحد القيامة)..  مرة أخرى شعرت بيد الأنبا تكلاهيمانوت وهي تتدخل في لحظاتٍ حرجة لإنقاذ الموقف..  وأخذت الفيزا لمدة شهرين (بالإضافة إلى الشهر الأول)، على الرغم من أن كثيرون قالوا لي أنهم متشددين جداً وربما تأخذها عشرة أيام أو ما شابه..  الحمد لله..

 

 

By this we get a better chance to see more of the religious and touristic sites in Ethiopia, and who knows, maybe we’d head South after this Northern Ethiopia tour, which would take 10 days by internal flights, or two weeks by car..  But I am going by plane, because, unusually, it is less expensive than hiring a private car, and of course faster and more comfortable than the one by car, that driving by car takes 5-10 hours each!  But, on the other hand I might lose some places to visit along the way..  God will arrange the best..

بهذا يكون لدينا فرصة أفضل لمشاهدة الكثير من الأماكن الدينية والسياحية في إثيوبيا، وربما ننزل إلى الجنوب بعد هذه الرحلة في شمال إثيوبيا، والتي قد تستغرق حوالي عشرة أيام بالطيران الداخلي، أو أسبوعان بالعربة..  ولكنني سأقوم بعمل الرحلة بالطيران، لأنه -على غير العادة- أقل تكلفة من تأجير عربة خاصة، وفي نفس الوقت أسرع وأكثر راحة من رحلات بالعربة تأخذ من خمس إلى عشرة ساعات للتنقل من مكان لمكان!  ولكنني قد أفقد زيارة بعض الأماكن على الطريق..  ربنا يدبر الصالح..

Yesterday also I visited the Museum located inside the Ethiopian Patriarchate, which H. H. El Baba Shinoda visited it when His Holiness was here in Ethiopia..  The museum, although a bit small, but it is of a good content, and well designed and preserved..  It has portraits of the Patriarchs of the Ethiopian Church, photos of the previous and current Ethiopian Bishops, along with some belongings of the five Habashy Patriarchs..  And photos of the ecumenical relationships between the Ethiopian Church and world Churches..

قمت أيضاً أمس بزيارة المتحف الحبشي الموجود بمقر البطريركية الحبشية، وهو الذي قام قداسة البابا شنوده بزيارته عندما كان هنا في إثيوبيا..  والمتحف -على الرغم من صِغَره- إلا أنه ذو محتوى جيد، وعلى مستوى عال من التصميم والأمن..  وبه صور بطاركة الكنيسة الإثيوبية، وصور الأساقفة الحاليين والسابقين، مع جانب من محتويات البطاركة الأحباش الخمسة..  وصور لعلاقات الكنيسة الحبشية مع كنائس العالم..
