I couldn’t get the permission paper of Lalibella today from the Patriarchate, I’ll call them tomorrow to end this..  Also I’ve asked for another permission for photography of Addis Ababa Churches from Metropolitan Garema..

لم أستطع اليوم الحصول على التصريح الخاص بمنطقة لاليبيلا من البطريركية، سوف أتصل بهم غداً لإنهاء هذا الأمر..  وطلبت اليوم أيضاً تصريحاً لكنائس أديس أبابا من قداسة المطران أبونا جاريما.. 

 

 

I went today to a museum at Addis Ababa University, it is very well organized and displayed..  At the ground floor there are some portraits and icons from previous centuries, two of them for St. Teklehaimanot, it has a section about the habits of the Ethiopian tribes, like those on the lower valleys of "Omo" and "Awash"..  Part of the museum for children and adult games, clothing, accessories..  And another about religions, especially Islam and Christians..

ذهبت بعد الظهر إلى متحف موجود بجامعة أديس أبابا، وهو متحف على مستوى عالٍ من التنسيق والحفظ..  في الدور الأرضي يوجد بعض الصور من قرون سابقة، منها صورتين للقديس تكلا هيمانوت، وبه قسم عن عادات القبائل الحبشية، مثل الموجودين في الأودية الجنوبية في "أومو" و"أواش"..  وجانب عن ألعاب الأطفال والكبار والملابس والحلي، وأيضاً قسم عن الأديان، وخاصة الإسلام والمسيحية..

To my surprise, this building of the museum, or this villa so to speak, is Emperor Haile Selassie’s palace (The name Haile Selassie in Amharic means: Hail to the Trinity).  I got into the Emperor’s bedroom, it had some of his portraits at various stages of his life..  Also the bathroom, and some other chambers, which had some of his belongings of clothes, medals, accessories..  I forgot to mention that at the entrance to the museum there is an embalmed lion, that belonged to the Emperor..

أما الذي فوجئت به، فهو أن هذا المبنى الموجود به المتحف، أو بمعنى أصح هذا القصر، هو قصر ملكي للإمبراطور هيلاسلاسي (وبالمناسبة، كلمة هيلاسلاسي بالأمهرية، تعني: هيل أي المجد، و سيلاسي أي الثالوث، أي المجد للثالوث).  ودخلت إلى حجرة النوم الخاصة بالإمبراطور، وبها بعض الصور في مراحل مختلفة من حياته..  وأيضاً الحمام، وبعض الحجرات الأخرى، بها متعلقات شخصية من ملابس وميداليات وحلى..  نسيت أن أقول أنه في مدخل المتحف يوجد أسد خاص بالإمبراطور تم تحنيطه..

At the upper floor, there is a gorgeous gallery for the Ethiopian Sacred Icons, various crosses, along with a section about the various Ethiopian musical instruments..

أما في الدور الأعلى، فيوجد معرض رائع به عن الأيقونات الإثيوبية المقدسة، والصلبان المختلفة، بالإضافة إلى جانب عن الآلات الموسيقية الحبشية المتنوعة..

The icons are very beautiful, but unfortunately when I started taking photos, I was stopped, whether to use the cam with or without flash..  But I insisted to get Saint Takla Haymanout’s icon of course :)  I tried to get a book about the museum and its contents with the price of 500 ETB (The Ethiopian currency is Birr = $9.7 approx. - May 2008), but there were no left copies..  Maybe I’ll pass by the museum after a month to see if they printed new or what..

الأيقونات جميلة جداً، ولكن للأسف بعدما قمت بتصوير بضعة أيقونات، تم منعي من التصوير، سواء بفلاش أو بدون فلاش..  ولكنني أصريت على تصوير صورة الأنبا تكلا هيمانوت بالطبع :)  وحاولت أن أحصل على كتاب مصور عن المتحف ثمنة خمسمائة بِر (البر Birr هو العملة الإثيوبية، والدولار حوالي 9.7 بير - مايو 2008)، ولكن لم يكن هناك نسخ متبقية..  ربما سأذهب مرة أخرى بعد شهر إلى هذا المتحف لأرى هل تم طبع الجديد أم ماذا..
