I got out from the Ethiopian Archives Library, heading to the Ethiopian Patriarchate, and I was like: here is another useless day..  I had a meeting with one of the Ethiopians teaching the Ge’ez Language in Addis Ababa, he is someone other than the one in charge for the Ethiopian millennium Exhibition.  The meeting was about getting some information about the Geez Language; which is the original of the Amharic Language, thousands of ancient manuscripts are written in that language, and it is used in some prayers, just as we use the Coptic Language in Egypt.  This teacher is teaching it to many students..  We agreed to make a section for the students on the website regarding this Language, and make it available in both English, Amharic and maybe Arabic too, for some introductions about this Language and teaching it.  In order to help the Ethiopian students studying this Language, and shed a light about it to the whole world in the World Wide Web..

وخرجت من مكتبة الأرشيف الحبشية، متوجهاً إلى البطريركية الإثيوبية، بعدما شعرت بأنه ها هو يوم آخر غير مفيد..  كنت على موعد مع أحد الأحباش الذين يقومون بتدريس لغة الجيز بأديس أبابا، وهو غير المسئول عن معرض الألفية الحبشية.  وكان اللقاء بخصوص إحضار معلومات عن لغة الجيز؛ وهي اللغة الأصلية للغة الأمهرية، وبها مكتوب آلاف المخطوطات الأثرية، وتستخدم في بعض الصلوات مثلما نستخدم اللغة القبطية في مصر.  وهذا المدرس يقوم بتدريسها لكثير من الطلبة..  وكنا قد اتفقنا على أن نتيح لهم قسم على الموقع، خاص بهذه اللغة، يكون متاحاً باللغتين الإنجليزية والأمهرية وربما العربية أيضاً، عن مقدمات وتعليم لغة الجيز.  بهدف مساعدة الطلبة الأحباش الدارسون لهذه اللغة، وإتاحة معلومات عنها للعالم على الشبكة العنكبوتية..

 

 

I went on time, and waited for one hour, but he didn’t show up!  It was starting to get cloudy, and rain drops started to fall, and just when I was going back to the residence, Mr. Daniel, the one in charge for the exhibition came, we talked a bit, and I waited with him till he locked the exhibition at 5:00 p. m., and we got outside the Patriarchate together.  Then I asked him to come with me at one of the bookshops where I had found a book about Saint Taklehaimanot before, in Amharic!  So he tells me about its contents, to buy it, maybe we would find a use of it one day.  After we finished, he told me: "You know what?  Today is an important day in the history of Saint Taklehaimanot, you shouldn’t have missed it"!  I asked him: "How so?!"  He said: "Tomorrow is the commemoration of descending the Holy Relics of Saint Taklehaimanot from the Cave to the Big Church in Debre Libanos Monastery, and there is a big celebration regarding that starting from today till tomorrow"!

وذهبت في الموعد، وانتظرت لمدة ساعة، ولم يأتِ!  وبدأ الجو يغيم، وأمطار خفيفة، وعندما كنت على وشك الذهاب للمسكن، جاء أ. دانيال مسئول المعرض، وتحدثنا قليلاً، وانتظرته حتى قام بإغلاق المعرض في الخامسة م.، وخرجنا سوياً خارج البطريركية.  ثم طلبت منه أن يأتي معي إلى إحدى مكتبات البيع التي وجدت فيها قبلاً كتاباً عن الأنبا تكلاهيمانوت، ولكنه باللغة الأمهرية!  ليخبرني عن محتواه لأقوم بشراءه، علَّنا نستفيد منه في يوم من الأيام.  وبعدما انتهينا، قال لي: "أتعرف: إنه اليوم كان يوماً هاماً في تاريخ الأنبا تكلاهيمانوت، وكان يجب عليك ألا تفوِّته"!  فسألته: "كيف هذا"؟!  فقال لي: "غداً هو يوم ذكرى إنزال جسد القديس تكلاهيمانوت من المغارة إلى الكنيسة الكبيرة بدير ديبرا ليبانوس، ويتم هناك إحتفالية كبيرة بهذا الخصوص تبدأ من اليوم حتى غداً"!

 

I told him: "How come?!  Today is May 19, and not May 11" (the eve of the festival, as I read in the book)!!  He told me: "Today is 11 in the Ethiopian Calendar" (which is like the Coptic Calendar as we mentioned before).  Till this moment I wasn’t in full knowledge of the whole thing, or if that date (this Calendar) was being used indeed, especially in books!!  At this moment I recalled what I read a couple of hours ago about the commemoration day of getting the remains of Saint Taklehaimanot from His cave, it was on May 12, which I thought I had missed..  I felt like the time was turning back so I can attend this day to record it for everyone, although time didn’t turn back for real!!!  I told him about it, and his advise was: "You are now in Ethiopia, but you are still using the Egyptian Calendar"..  I laughed and said: “When in Rome, do as Romans do..”  OK..

فقلت له: "كيف هذا؟!  اليوم 19 مايو وليس 11 مايو" (ليلة العيد، كما قرأت في الكتاب)!!  فقال لي: "اليوم هو 11 مايو طبقاً للنتيجة الحبشية" (وهي كما ذكرنا سابقاً مثل النتيجة القبطية).  وحتى تلك اللحظة لم أكن على دراية كافية بالأمر، أو أن هذا التاريخ (النتيجة) يُستخدَم بالفعل، وخاصة في الكتب!!  وفي هذه اللحظة استرجعت ما قرأته منذ ساعتين عن يوم ذكرى إحضار جسد الأنبا تكلاهيمانوت من المغارة، وأنه يوم 12 مايو، وهو ما ظننته قد فاتي..  وشعرت وكأن الزمن يعود للوراء حتى أحضر هذا اليوم لتسجيله للجميع، إلا أنه لم يعد للوراء حقاً!!!  وأخبرته عن هذا الأمر..  وكانت نصيحته لي: "أنت الآن في إثيوبيا، ولكنك مازلت تسير على النتيجة المصرية"..  فضحكت قائلا: "عندما تكون في روما، افعل كما يفعل الرومان"..  “When in Rome, do as Romans do..”  حاضر..
